Right at the end of Journey #3 we set off in Acorn to visit Kenilworth Castle and Elizabethan Gardens.
We had a long day cruising up the Coventry Canal back to Hawkesbury Junction where we joined the Oxford Canal. However we then went much, much further than planned to get a good mooring for the night and ended up in Newbold just outside Rugby. Time to update our Master Canal map with our Coventry to Rugby journey #3…
After a wonderful Sunday Lunch in The Golden Cross pub in central Coventry we wandered around the Cathedral, Herbert Museum and an outdoor photographic exhibition all about Space Debris.
After a morning stroll around the city we did a heritage walking tour around the Cathedral Quarter. Our guide – Verity – was excellent. On Saturday night we went to a venue called the Rialto Plaza to see a Fleetwood Mac tribute band. A great day!
Friday 19th May 2023 and we have set off on our third journey in Oak today. Left from bridge 15 near Bedworth and Marston Junction around 10am. Stopped at Hawkesbury Junction to top up with water and empty a toilet cassette. Spent the next few hours winding our way down the Coventry Canal all the way to the basin. On Sunday 14th May visted Sledmere House to watch the famous Wagon Challenge event.
Spent the day exploring the coast near the North Yorkshire Moors – Grosmont, Staithes, Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay, Scarborough, Filey & Bridlington.
Took a break from Oak and the canals. We took Acorn off to Yorkshire for a long weekend. Camped overnight at Clumber Park (National Trust). Had a fantastic walk alongside the lake and then sat watching the geese, swans and ducks. Cooked our first meal in the van – pasta carbonara!
