Leaving Glascote Basin 4th March 2024
We got a bit of help from the lads in Glascote Basin to navigate back out under the bridge onto the Coventry Canal. Battery was flat after the winter and they had to give the engine a bit of a jump start!
Stoneywell Tour
Our first Acorn Adventure for this year. An afternoon out to Stoneywell National Trust property in Leicestershire. We managed to join the last guided tour of the day and heard some great stories about the place. Ernest Gimson designed Stoneywell Cottage to appear as if organically grown among the rocky outcrops of the Charnwood Forest, and the cottage’s 11 rooms sit on seven different levels.
Into Glascote Basin
Our last day on the canals for the 2023 season. We travelled the last few miles from Fazeley to our Winter Mooring at Glascote Basin in Tamworth.
Small Heath to Mimworth
We did 14 locks today. Some with very shallow water and got grounded in the bottom of one. Moved from the Grand Union (North) onto the Birmingham & Fazeley Canal. Wonderful weather held all day and we even stopped at a Nandos for lunch at Star City outside Birmingham.
Baddersley Clinton
It was a wet day so we went off in Acorn and visited National Trust property – Baddersley Clinton.
Eovolt Afternoon
The latest addition to our Oak/Acorn transport team – meet the Eovolt Afternoon electric folding bike for retrieving Acorn from Oak! Plus doing a spot of shopping now and again. It rides really well. Just tested it and it is going to be great.
