Logging the adventures of Narrowboat Oak and Campervan Acorn
So we have had to change our plans. Not going to make it to Leicester Marina now due to flooding on the River Soar ahead. Red warning lights! Time to turn around a retrace our route a little back to Mercia Marina about 5 locks back up the canal.
We spent the afternoon on Sunday 17th March exploring the Museum of Making in Derby. A lego model of the Lake District, a giant trainset and lots of interesting displays of things made in Derby!
We spent the afternoon exploring the house and grounds of Calke Abbey, National Trust property. With peeling paintwork and overgrown courtyards, Calke Abbey tells the story of the dramatic decline of a country house estate. The house and stables are little restored, with many abandoned areas vividly portraying a period in the 20th century when numerous country houses did not survive to tell their story.
Just completed our final stretch of the Coventry Canal. Short journey along from Whittington to Fradley.
The boat engine would start! Flat battery?! Cycled to a car spares shop and bought a 12v battery charger/maintainer. Luckily it sorted the problem! Finally underway we pottered on up the canal to Whittington and found a peaceful mooring for the night.
